Principal’s Message

It is my pleasure to provide you with information about our college’s vision and how we focus on both the learning and wellbeing of all our young people to ensure we foster a safe, supportive and challenging learning environment each and every day.

I invite you to explore our website to see how our approaches to educating and supporting young people ensures we are building graduates that are equipped to not just survive, but thrive during their high school years and beyond.

We know and understand that every young person is an individual, and success looks different for each young person.  That is why we offer a wide range of educational programs and opportunities for our students to engage with.  This ensures that all our young people experience success in learning, and find their positive pathway for the future, whether that be further study, stepping into an apprenticeship or entering the work of full-time employment.

Our curriculum offerings include pathways that academically challenge high achievers, including our ACE program, access to the Victorian High Abilities Program and a large number of VCE subjects to select from, including subjects such as Art Making and Exhibiting, Business Management, Cemistry, Psychology, Systems Engineering and many more!  High achieving students have the opportunity to access VCE subjects from Year 10 as accelerated subjects, which ensures our young people are challenged at an appropriate level based on their strengths and interests.

We also place an equal emphasis on offering a high-quality vocational pathway for our students.  This is important to enable students to apply their learning to real life problems and understand how subjects are relevant to both their current, and future lives.  We do this through a wide range of programs such as Hands On Learning, a strong VCE Vocational Major pathway option, and enabling access to a large number of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses.  Our students can studying everything from Automotive in our state of the art Trade Skills Centre located on site, through to Music Production or even Animal Studies as part of their VCE or VCE VM pathway.

In addition to our innovative approach to curriculum and subject offerings, we also ensure that all our students are noticed, known and understood.  Every student has a team of staff around them to both challenge and support them in their learning and wellbeing, including Home Group teachers, Mentors, Sub School Teams and our wonderful student services teams made up of Careers, Inclusion and Wellbeing experts.  Our teams work in collaboration to coordinate information and supports that will enable all learners to be happy, healthy and ready for learning.

This is an exciting time for our college.  We are currently embarking on a major review of our curriculum to ensure the education we are providing to our young people is relevant, challenging, supportive and engaging.  In addition to this, we are continuously developing and reviewing our systems and structures that support our students.  This includes the launch of our Mentor program in 2023, as well as reviewing and “renovating” our House system to be launched at the start of 2024.

We are also very excited to have commenced the process of planning for major facilities improvements costing $13.6M across the college.  Plans currently being developed will ensure we have buildings, spaces and facilities that are not only high quality, but create environments that stimulate the senses and promote excellence in teaching and learning.

Our website provides you with just a small glimpse into life at our college.  I encourage you to find out more about our college by joining me on one of our regular school tours to learn more about what makes Lyndhurst Secondary College a great school of choice in our local area.
